shades of blue

J. Mane Gallery is proud to present our Shades of Blue online juried art exhibition.

Blue is a fascinating color in art, carrying various symbolic meanings across cultures and contexts. It's often associated with tranquility, depth, and stability. Many artists use blue to evoke feelings of calmness, serenity, and peace. In some instances, it symbolizes sadness or melancholy, as seen in artworks where it represents emotions like loneliness or introspection.

For this competition, artists were encouraged to share their artistic vision and interpretation using only shades of blue.  The artwork submitted varied from realism to surrealism to abstraction, and all media were accepted, including 3-D. All artists over the age of 18, regardless of location or experience, were encouraged to submit their best inspired work.

Each of our themed exhibitions, awards for Best In Show, Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards.

The remaining artists included in the exhibition serve as an example of impressive talent and we are honored to showcase their artwork on the J. Mane Gallery website.

We thank all the competition participants. If you are interested in purchasing any of the artwork in this exhibition, please contact the artists directly. J. Mane Gallery does not enter into the selling of artwork featured in any of the monthly online exhibitions. You will find the artist's website or email by clicking on the images below.

Starry Night Over Yaquina Bay, Digital Art From Photo, 30 x 10

Bruce Block

I relocated to the Pacific Northwest in the late 1990's and instantly became addicted to the natural beauty in the region. I originally was a research engineer in high technology with a specialization in optics and materials. I began exploring photography as a hobby. After retiring from my engineering career in 2016, I have used my engineering experience and love of experimentation to develop novel techniques and embrace technology to advance digital based photography to new levels and to express my homage to the natural surroundings. My photography is inspired by nature and I enjoy digitally transforming photographs into something unique, different and bold. Sometimes my experiments lead to something new and exciting, and sometimes they fail. That is the nature of research. But more importantly, sometimes I see nature in a different light.

Aquatique Deux, Digital Painting, 20 x 16

Jyl Blackwell

"I have always loved all things creative. Since childhood, I have written music and poetry, enjoyed working with textiles and fiber arts, and telling compelling stories through photography and traditional art mediums. My art arrived on the scene when I was able to form art and technology into a process, I call Kinetic Flow Painting™. Swirling layers of gradient pixels are put into motion and painted on the digital canvas. Sometimes these layers reside on their own and sometimes they are incorporated into photographic or digital collages. Often, new advances in software send me in an entirely new direction but always with the same process of extracting the essence of the piece through color and curve, form and light - music for the eyes."

My paintings are an emotional response to feelings I have about the world, and the environment. They become compressed onto the canvas with bold colors, in a flurry of activity, sometimes with a more subtle response that creates minimalist art. I grew up in Hawaii, playing in bamboo forests and beaches, surrounded by tropical beauty. My interest in colorful abstract art started early, and I was influenced by Monet, and Van Gogh, as well as Abstract Expressionism. Nature inspires me. It gives me the impetus to experiment with different color palates, different textures, mark making, and the variability of emotion. I paint using hard body, soft body, and fluid acrylics on canvas primarily; and I am also interested in pursuing collage, and the use of a gelli plate. One of my interests is combining nature, beauty, and social justice.
