Fins, feathers & fur

J. Mane Gallery is proud to present our Fins, Feathers & Fur online juried art exhibition.

Animals have been a source of inspiration for many artists. From art about rural life and growth, to myths and legends, animals are used in art in many different ways. Art can help us explore our relationship to wildlife and can help us think about how we care for animals and the environment.

For this competition, we looked for not only technique with medium, but how well the artist captured the essence and spirit of the subject.

For this competition, artists were encouraged to share their artistic vision and interpretation of animals.  The artwork varied from realism to surrealism to abstraction. All artists over the age of 18, regardless of location or experience, were encouraged to submit their best-inspired work.

Each of our themed exhibitions, awards for Best In Show, Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards.

The remaining artists included in the exhibition serve as an example of impressive talent and we are honored to showcase their artwork on the J. Mane Gallery website.

We thank all the competition participants. If you are interested in purchasing any of the artwork in this exhibition, please contact the artists directly. J. Mane Gallery does not enter into the selling of artwork featured in any of the monthly online exhibitions. You will find the artist's website or email by clicking on the images below.

Thank you for visiting our website and enjoy the exhibition!

Living Her Best Life, Colored Pencil, 24 x 27

Susan Wehrman

I didn’t set out to become an artist, but my passion for art began early on; in elementary school tempera paints, construction paper and ordinary glue represented a vision to be fulfilled. While other children longed for toys, my greatest excitement came from visits to the local hobby shop for paint-by-number kits. I would spend many marathon weekends working on these cardboard canvases. Today, I specialize in pet and nature portraits; my artwork represents the special bond we share with the animals that have etched special places in our hearts.

Giraffe With Rose, Colored Pencil, 20 x 30

Cathy Boytos

I’ve always been interested in art and spent as much time as possible creating various kinds of artwork. Due to regular life issues I had to put art aside for several years but returned to art later in life and found that I still had that same familiar passion from before. After obtaning my degree in Graphic Design I worked in that field for many years and became an adjunct instructor teaching graphic design at the same college where I obtained my degree. After leaving corporate America, I knew that I missed hands-on-art. I resumed my love of botanical drawing and included that in my teaching schedule. During the pandemic I discovered the world of colored pencils and immediately knew that I had discovered a perfect art medium match for me.

My art passion is derived from nature which was instrumental in my interest in botanical art illustration. That might be a flower, a leaf, a tree or an animal. I use colored pencils to create representational art showing the soul of animals and the intricacies of botanicals. When I was a small child, I would spend time in the woods with my sketch books, drawing leaves. I was always fascinated by the details in nature. I am continually intrigued by the realism achieved by colored pencils.

One of her latest accolades was in September 2020 when her painting “I See You” won first place in the J. Mane Gallery’s “Fins, Feathers & Fur” online competition. Bird On A Rock, Watercolor & Ink, 8 x 10

Regina Roland

After a career spent in the art of teaching, I decided to dabble in the art of watercolor. That dabble became a passion. A lover of nature, I draw peace and inspiration from all it has to offer. Many of my pieces transport me to sunny meadows or wooded realms where my spirit soars. Whether my work is realistic or abstract my wish is that this spirit has wended its way to my paintings. My work has been exhibited in both local and national galleries.
