black & white

J. Mane Gallery is proud to present its Black & White online juried art exhibition.

Monochrome means one color, so in relation to art, a monochrome artwork is one that includes only one color.

Throughout the centuries artists used different shades of brown or black to create monochrome pictures on paper. The medium they would use would simply be more or less diluted to achieve the required shades.  The play of light and dark enabled the artist to define form and create a picture.

For this competition, artists were encouraged to share their artistic vision using only one color.  All media were accepted, including 3-D. Artists over the age of 18, regardless of location or experience, were encouraged to submit their best-inspired work.

Each of our themed exhibitions, awards for Best In Show, Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards.

The remaining artists included in the exhibition serve as an example of impressive talent and we are honored to showcase their artwork on the J. Mane Gallery website.

We thank all the competition participants. If you are interested in purchasing any of the artwork in this exhibition, please contact the artists directly. J. Mane Gallery does not enter into the selling of artwork featured in any of the monthly online exhibitions. You will find the artist's website or email by clicking on the images below.

Thank you for visiting our website and enjoy the exhibition!

Andrea Borbély Hellman

Andrea Hellman, Ed.D., is an associate professor of English at Missouri State University. Her current art projects are about play and exploration. She experiments with color schemes, curious shapes, light patterns, dynamic compositions, and texture brushes. Andrea lives in a vibrant arts community; her works reflect the relationship of art forms, theater, poetry, dance, and music. She occupies herself with “what if” questions to generate creative imagery: What if this shape was made of silk? What if I choreographed a ballet dancer? What if this line of poetry was a painting? She visualizes her musings and sensations in the present.

Deborah Zavon

I live and work in New York. I have studied with various prominent artists
at NYU, The New School, Visual Arts, The New York Academy, and the Arts
Students League, where I am a life member. My work has been shown in print,
in virtual and physical venues, and is held in private collections.

I am in cahoots with my pencil, fascinated by the ability to simulate
different textures and surfaces.

To cause the eye to see hard, soft, rough, and smooth; to create and ellicit
emotions simply by moving my pencil amazes me. I consider it my
collaborator in creating a world of our making.
